Keeping readers abreast of developments around the world and providing interpretation of current trends and analysis of today’s problems,
Benefits & Compensation International
magazine is well established in
the field of international employee benefits and compensation. Each copy of the magazine contains a range of articles on such issues as benefit plan design and compensation trends worldwide, retirement benefits, health care, group life assurance and social security. Areas regularly featured include:

–  multinational insurance pooling,
–  tax-effective remuneration,
–  benefit and compensation developments in individual countries,
–  expatriate compensation trends,
–  pension financing and actuarial considerations,
–  the effective investment of pension fund assets, and
–  globalization challenges.

Launched in 1971, B&C International is published 10 times a year, with the January/February and July/August double issues each featuring a detailed report on a particular country or topic and an international conference calendar in addition to the standard articles. The strength of the magazine lies in the variety of its contributors, most of whom are recognized experts, usually based in the country under consideration. In addition, the magazine regularly includes detailed conference reports – popular with both readers and advertisers – together with features on key players and shorter editorial pieces on topical events, books and surveys.

Why advertise in Benefits & Compensation International?
B&C International provides a unique opportunity to reach not only those with corporate responsibility for employee benefits and remuneration, but also those who advise them. Regular advertisers include multinational pooling networks, consultancies specializing in benefits, compensation and
HR, actuarial firms, insurance companies and investment management companies. In addition, companies have been successful in recruiting key employees in this specialist field through the pages of B&C International. Furthermore, owing to the scope of editorial coverage, the magazine is seen as an ideal place to advertise international conferences and seminars, books and reports. The effectiveness of advertising in B&C International is enhanced by our placing advertisements, wherever possible, within articles or reports of most relevance to the company’s line of business or country of operation – we make no extra charge for this.

What is the magazine's circulation?
Our circulation now stands at 802 copies per month, with 65% of our total circulation consisting of paying subscribers. Most of the remainder represent individual copies sent to targeted potential subscribers, carefully researched by ourselves. These copies go to different companies each month and are always addressed to the appropriate individual within the organization, meaning that a further 3,383 practitioners see a copy of the magazine each year, of whom 1,634 are corporate managers. While our circulation may not seem high when compared with those of domestic magazines, it is in fact substantial, given the small proportion of international companies relative to domestic ones – even nowadays – and the limited number of managers with international responsibility. No other magazine in our field reaches a corporate audience in around 32 countries. We know from reader surveys that there are, on average, six readers per copy, with the range being as wide as one to over 20.

How much does advertising cost?
The following table shows the advertising rates for B&C International, effective as from the January/February 2007 issue. Please note that the longer the series, the more generous the discount. A series must be completed within one year of the issue of the first insertion and will be charged according to the number of insertions actually taken.

How much does colour cost?
Each extra colour used costs £228/US$410.
Our four-colour rate is £685/US$1,235.

Are there any additional charges?
We guarantee to insert all advertisements facing editorial matter. Advertisers wishing to reserve the inside front cover position can do so at a charge of £450/US$810.

Charges for film output and operator time will be made as necessary and will vary according to the job. We will attempt to use material supplied on other media or in other formats than specified, but cannot guarantee to be able to do so, and extra charges are likely. We are, of course, not responsible for any errors on advertising material supplied by advertisers or their agents. However, if we do notice a typographical error and it can be corrected in time, an appropriate charge will be made. In addition, appropriate charges will be made if failure to supply material in accordance with our print specifications involves us in extra work.

How much do loose inserts cost?
Loose inserts cost £985/US$1,775 for the whole run (minimum 900) of one month’s issue. This includes the cost of additional postage for a two-page A4 leaflet weighing up to 20g. Any further postage for a thicker leaflet is borne by the advertiser. A second insert for the same issue booked by the same advertiser attracts a 20% discount. We guarantee that only one advertiser is included per issue, with bookings accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Inserts are required by the 10th of the month preceding the cover month. It is company policy not to hire out our subscriber mailing lists. If the issue of your choice has already been booked and you do not want to wait for the next available slot, we can offer you a controlled mail-out at the loose insert price plus handling costs (£55/US$99), with postage being charged extra, as long as the leaflets are supplied already enveloped.

How much does an entry in the conference calendar cost?
We charge £150/US$270 per calendar entry. However, organizations that advertise their services elsewhere in the magazine (not necessarily in the same issue) may have their international conferences/seminars publicized free of charge. Published in the January/February and July/August issues, the international conference calendar covers the forthcoming 12-18 month period; details are also posted on our website. Events that are publicized in the calendar are all international in flavour. Details should be sent to us by
1 November for inclusion in the January/February issue or by 1 May for the July/August issue.

How far ahead do we need to book?
The magazine’s standard publication date is towards the end of the month preceding the cover month, e.g. the April issue is published in late March, and bookings for advertisements in single issues should be made 4 weeks before publication, e.g. by the end of February for the April issue. The January/February and July/August double issues are published in January and July respectively. Bookings for advertisements in these issues should be made 6 weeks before publication, i.e. in mid December and mid June. Printing material is required the week after the booking date. Timing obviously varies from issue to issue, so please check with our Advertising Department for exact dates.

What happens if we need to cancel?
Cancellations of bookings in single issues should be made in writing by the 28th of the month preceding publication, e.g. by 28 February for the April issue. Cancellations of bookings in the January/February and July/August issues should be made in writing by 8 December and 15 June respectively. Space not cancelled by these dates is chargeable at the rate booked. If a series is cancelled part way through, the rate charged will be that appropriate for the number of insertions actually taken.

What are the print specifications?
The magazine is printed offset litho on 115 gsm gloss art, screen 150. To obtain the best possible results, we require a contract-quality proof with all material. We take as much care as possible with material submitted, but in the absence of such a proof we cannot take full responsibility for the final appearance of your files. Material can be supplied on all common media, though we recommend CD or Zip. We accept digital files only in the following formats: Quark Xpress 3, 4 or 5. If using version 6, or Passport, please downsave as appropriate. Please use ‘Collect for output’ and include fonts if using Mac. If sending PC format files, note that we will have to substitute the fonts with as close a match as possible. Picture files should be CMYK tifs at 300 dpi at target size (halftones) or 800 dpi at target size (line-art).

We accept EPS and PDF files but it is essential that these are set up correctly. Ensure that fonts are embedded and that images are not downsized below the resolutions stated above. Unless you have specifically booked spot colour, all colour elements must be set up to split for CMYK working. Elements set up incorrectly may appear wrongly or not at all, leading to unexpected results.

Please note that Microsoft files in Word, Publisher, etc. are not suitable for final use, although we can ‘cut & paste’ text from such files into Quark. If you submit material this way, please supply any pictures separately, not placed in the documents.

All copy supplied should conform to the following dimensions:

Full page (type): 255 mm (10") deep x 183 mm (7¼") wide
(trim): 297 mm (11¾") deep x 210 mm (8¼") wide
(bleed): 310 mm (12¼") deep x 220 mm (8¾") wide
Half page (vertical): 255 mm (10") deep x 89 mm (3½") wide
(horizontal): 122 mm (4") deep x 183 mm (7¼") wide
Quarter page (vertical): 122 mm (4") deep x 89 mm (3½") wide
(horizontal): 63 mm (2½") deep x 183 mm (7¼") wide

Will you design advertisements for us?
We can undertake simple design work and have advertisements set. Charges for this service depend on the size and style of the advertisement. Average charges for design and setting are: £200/US$360 for a quarter-page, £250/US$450 for a half-page and £300/US$540 for a full-page advertisement. We can also arrange for very high-quality setting to be done to a design specification. Average costs for setting only are £80/US$145 for a quarter page, £100/US$180 for a half page and £120/US$216 for a full page.

Other points

1. We will strictly enforce our policy of agencies' forfeiting their commission if the account is not paid within 8 weeks of date of invoice.
2. If advertising material arrives in our office after the late copy deadline,
we reserve the right to make a charge of £80/US$145 per day of further delay.
3. While every effort is made to ensure that artwork, film, etc. is neither damaged nor lost, we regret that we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage (including charges for space already booked) sustained outside our own building.
4. We reserve the right, unless otherwise instructed, to destroy all advertising material not requested to be returned within 12 months of insertion.
5. Please note that we are not responsible for any costs associated with the despatch of advertising materials by advertisers or their agents . All transit documents should state that enclosures are of "no commercial value".
